What does an Electrician do?

Electricians can work anywhere with an electrical supply, including domestic and business premises, public buildings and industrial settings. Electricians install, test, maintain and repair electrical systems and components and specialists work on mains electricity supply cables, phone lines and fiber optic cables. There are three main levels of experience for electricians: apprentice, journeyman and master.

Working as an Electrician
An electrician can perform a number of tasks depending on their level of experience and field of expertise, including:
Visiting commercial and domestic premises to install wiring, troubleshoot problems and carry out repairs

Conducting routine maintenance and testing on electrical systems and checking them against manufacturer guidelines

Working with other professionals on building and refurbishment projects
Inspecting electrical components such as transformers and circuit breakers

Providing assessments and quotes for clients who need installations or repairs
